20 Things to do on Mother’s Day!

The first special woman in almost everyone’s life is their mother. So this Mother’s Day, show how much you appreciate all she has done for you by acknowledging this important day in a special way. Since every mother is different, you’ll need to determine what makes her happy. Think about those times when you caught her smiling. Use your memories to bring another smile to her face. Whether you get her a gift or not, it’s always nice to celebrate the entire day with her in mind. Plan your whole day around activities you know she’ll enjoy. These tips and ideas don’t just fit your mother, they’re great ways to enjoy with your sister or best friend who are new moms or your aunt or mother-in-law.

Great ways to enjoy the day with her!

  • Put together a collage of photos from the past and present. You can also add memory notes to each photo. Most moms enjoy reminiscing the good times, and having photos in a collection that you put together makes it all the more special.

  • Cook a meal together. You probably know her favorite meal. Buy the groceries needed and start cooking together. Keep the mood fun and take pictures.

  • Have an afternoon board game marathon or a game night with the whole family.

  • Put together a list of things you learned from her over the years. Read it to her and leave her with the list so she can read it again later.

  • Make a slide show or video. Get together with your siblings (if you have any) and create a show that will make her laugh, cry, and want to hug the whole bunch of you.

  • Book a spa day. Many moms spend quite a bit of time taking care of everyone else, and they tend to neglect themselves. If this sounds like your mother, make an appointment for her to be pampered at a spa.

  • Treat her to a weekend getaway far from the city. If you live in Cairo; then Fayoum, Alexandria, or Ain Sokhna are wonderful options that are a short ride away from the city. Book a day-use in her favorite hotel. She’ll feel relaxed and recharged after a day well spent in her favorite hotel.

  • Arrange a movie night with the whole family. Choose one or even two of her favorite movies. Gather everyone in the living room along with popcorn and snacks.

  • Bring her breakfast to bed. Mom can cash in on this when she’s had a rough week and needs a little extra rest.

  • Take her shopping and out to lunch. If your mother enjoys nothing more than a day at the mall and lunch at her favorite restaurant, this will delight her and give her something to look forward to.

  • Take her to the movies. It sounds simple, but how often do you go out to watch a new movie with your mom? Share a bag of popcorn and enjoy talking about the film afterward. And if she’s always up to date regarding new movie releases, she’ll enjoy this one.

  • Design an herb garden. If she enjoys cooking, you can make her either an outdoor or indoor herb garden, depending on where she lives. Make sure you label each one. And if she’s never had fresh herbs in her garden, include instructions on how to care for them.

Because the best gift you can give her is your time.

  • Plan a picnic. If you happen to have a backyard or access to a garden, skip the noisy, pricey restaurant and instead lay out a picnic in a quiet corner of the garden. The beautiful outdoors, a loving family, and delicious food make for lasting memories.

  • Set up a scavenger hunt. Hide a bunch of small gifts around the house, then write riddles inside cards to lead her to their location. This is a fun activity that the little ones can help plan, too!

  • Spend time in her garden. If she’s into gardening, she’ll enjoy your interest in it too. Visit the nearest nursery to you and have mom pick out some new flowers or vegetables for her garden, then help her plant them when you get home. Pitch in with weeding or watering while you’re at it—she’ll appreciate the gesture.

  • Kick off Mother’s Day on a healthy note by trying a new workout class together. Not only is this an incredible bonding activity, but you’ll both feel energized and ready to tackle more activities.

  • Spend the day volunteering for a cause close to both of your hearts. It will fill you with warmth to help others in need while bonding with her.

  • Rent her dream car for the day. Surprise mom by taking a spin in a car she’s always dreamed of driving. Bonus points if you plan a fun road trip to a place she’s always wanted to visit!

  • Take a class together, whether it’s a drawing, pottery, or cooking class. Learn something new and create more memories together.
