The soul of the house

Home décor is like the soul of the house. From wallpaper to vases, it’s the small details that truly turn a house into a home! It is an essential part of living as it reflects the mood and taste of its owners and creates a signature style for the entire household.

Remember the day you moved into your own space for the first time? The walls are empty, the carpets smell of soap from the cleaners, and the whole place looks like promises of happy times to come. After a while, you hang some photos, put some vases with flowers in them and throw in some pillows on your couch. Before you know it, walking into your home makes you smile. You are reminded of memories with loved ones when you pass by their photo, the pillow and throw blanket on your couch make the place look cozy and in general, there’s a place for everything and everything is in its place.

Why does this process matter?

The way we decorate our home is our opportunity to create the kind of space we enjoy, and it says a lot about our personality. Do you have a big family or like to always have friends over? Therefore, arrange as many chairs as you can so you can bring all your people together. Or are you more of a quiet person who love some quality time with yourself, so designing a great reading nook with vases that always has fresh flowers in them, would be the perfect thing? Beyond expressing ourselves, home décor can affect us physically. Do you light a vanilla-scented candle while working in your home office to set the mood for a productive day or light a lavender one before bedtime for a more relaxing mood?

Everything from your choice of colors to the number of throw pillows you put on the sofa is an opportunity to create an environment where you and your loved ones will thrive and make your mark. You can create a calming space with simple color schemes, a cozy and inviting home with warm tones, or a bright and lively entertaining area with bold patterns. We think Deborah Needleman explains this idea best in her book, The Perfectly Imperfect Home. The point of decorating, as far as I can tell, is to create the background for the best life you can have.
